Unifi Mobile (legacy) Postpaid Unlimited Plan details (speed, FUP, etc.)

Made using Canva

For newer Uni5G Postpaid 89 Unlimited, click here.

Names, pricing & contract:

Any legacy unifi Mobile/webe unlimited data postpaid plan is relevant with points in this article. Note that these plans are not longer available for new signups starting 17 February 2023. Existing subscribers are able to retain this plan indefinitely.

PlanPrice (w/o tax)Contract
unifi Mobile 99 (for unifi Home Broadband customer/Jasa Pack/Student Pack)RM59/monthNone
unifi Mobile 99 (non-unifi Home Broadband customer, legacy webe unlimited)RM79/monthNone
unifi Mobile 99 (with contract option)RM59/month12 months

Speed/FUP/quota:

Unlimited but this plan has tiered speed cap system in place since introduction of webe unlimited plan in 2016. Some lines may not be imposed with this cap. Table below is valid for 4G LTE usage only. I personally experienced this cap when I subscribed to this plan back in 2016 until 2017.

Data usageSpeed (download only)
less than 10GBUncapped, best effort
10GB to 29GB10Mbps max
30GB to 49GB5Mbps max
50GB to 100GB3Mbps max
100GB and more1-2Mbps max
Thanks to Exa_Bytez at Lowyat.NET forum (and Sam Leong)

This may change as I’ve informed of any new info. Valid as of 28 Jan 2024.

  • P2P/torrent is capped at 64Kbps.
  • YouTube is capped at 1.5Mbps.
  • VPN is throttled to 64Kbps(?)
  • 5G access is included with no FUP.
  • Speeds are capped to 80Mbps when you’re on Maxis network

Hotspot:

On 5G, hotspot usage are unlimited.

10GB/month hotspot included (4G LTE usage only). However you can add hotspot addon as below:

  • RM6 for 2 hours of unlimited hotspot
  • RM8 for 500MB hotspot
  • RM15 for 1GB hotspot

All paid addons above supports hotspot for both 4G LTE & 3G. Weirdly (for 4G LTE usage), it isn’t subject to data FUP above so devices connected to your hotspot may get faster speed than your own phone.

Calls:

Unlimited to all networks to Malaysia (with 2000mins FUP) except:

  • 1051/15454/15300/103/15500 (15sen/min)
  • Premium hotline 1-300/1-700 (15sen/min)

Beware that exceeding the call FUP also may have your number suspended!

SMS:

Unlimited (I’m unsure the FUP limit).

Credit limit:

RM500 by default. You can ask TM to increase/decrease credit limit to your liking.

Unifi Mobile uni5G Prepaid “Unlimited” Data plan details (speed/FUP/etc.)

Former names of the plan:

  • #Bebas2Njoy
  • Bebas Prepaid Unlimited

Pricing:

  • RM1 for 2 hours unlimited
  • RM3 for Daily Unlimited (24 hours)
  • RM12 for Weekly Unlimited (7 days)
  • RM35 for Monthly Unlimited (30 days) + included 5G NR access

These passes are not auto-renewable. 5G NR access is ONLY AVAILABLE ON MONTHLY PLAN.

Speed:

All plans are capped up to 5Mbps on 4G LTE.

5G NR speeds are uncapped (best effort basis).

Quota/FUP/Hotspot:

PlanFUPHotspot
2 hours4G LTE: No FUPNo limit
Daily4G LTE: 10GB1GB
Weekly4G LTE: 20GB3GB
Monthly4G LTE: 60GB
5G NR: 40GB
5GB

Old FUP limit for monthly plan (those who purchased monthly pass before 9 February 2023) is as follows:

PlanFUPHotspot
Monthly4G LTE: 100GB
5G NR: 40GB
10GB

After FUP cap is reached, speeds are restricted to 512Kbps until end of the pass validity.

Can I use this plan inside LTE/5G modem/CPEs?

Yes. You need a modem with TTL fix (hotspot bypass) and support for LTE band 5, 38 & 40. For 5G, you need 4G LTE band 28 and/or 5G n78.

However, because of paltry amount of quota FUP limit, you might want to consider unifi Air (RM79/month, no contract if you pick SIM only) or just get home fibre subscription when possible. Among cheap home fiber plans is Celcom’s 30Mbps @ RM80 or unifi’s 30Mbps @ RM89, which both came with 2 year contract.

Calls:

Unlimited calls to all local networks for monthly plan only.

Otherwise you can add voice addons like below:

PriceCall Minutes
RM760 (value: 12 sen/minute)
RM20200 (value: 10 sen/minute)
Call Minutes are valid to all local networks & doesn’t have expiry (use until you ran out of minutes). Call minutes are deducted exactly on how many seconds after the person on the other end answers your call.

If you didn’t subscribe to any of the voice addons above, calls made will be charged at 20 sen/minute (60 sec per block) to all local networks.

SMS:

Pay per use at 10sen per SMS to all local networks.

How to enable VoLTE for Unifi Mobile on Xiaomi devices

Notes:

  • Your Xiaomi device must be VoLTE capable. You can check on Xiaomi’s website regarding VoLTE support for your device.
  • Unifi Mobile SIMs are already provisioned with VoLTE support, so you don’t need to chat/call Unifi CS to activate VoLTE.
  • Unifi Air SIMs doesn’t have VoLTE support because it is data-only plan.

Step 1: Open dialer and enter *#*#86583#*#*. A toast notification will appear that says “VoLTE carrier check was disabled”

Step 2: Add an separate APN with following settings:

  • Name: ims
  • APN: ims
  • APN type: ims, ia

Step 3: Toggle VoLTE enabled in SIM card settings.

Volia, you should have VoLTE enabled!

Network info for Unifi Mobile/Air

Some tidbits:

  • Launched in 2016 as webe, rebranded to unifi in 2017.
  • Operated by TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Webe Digital Sdn Bhd), a subsidary of Telekom Malaysia.
  • Operates own 4G LTE network.
  • Offers 5G through Digital Nasional Berhad’s network
  • 4G LTE spectrum acquired from previous P1 & TMgo network.
  • Uses Maxis 2G nationwide. Some places still uses Celcom’s 2G instead.
  • Uses Maxis 4G LTE for places outside unifi’s own 4G LTE coverage. (unifi Air users are not allowed to use Maxis network)
  • MCC/MNC (PLMN) code: 502 153
  • unifi Mobile & unifi Air (sans Maxis’s coverage) uses same tower & coverage. The reason unifi have separate unifi Air coverage in their website is to just show places with 4G LTE B40 2300MHz, to ensure optimal performance for unifi Air SIMs by preferring them to use in that area. unifi Air SIMs can connect to LTE B5 just like unifi Mobile prepaid/postpaid SIMs can connect to LTE B40. However, unifi Air userscannot access Maxis network.

5G NR bands:

Refer to this article.

It seems like all prepaid/postpaid plans has 5G access enabled by default. For unifi Air, you need to subscribe to RM149/month plan for 5G access.

4G LTE bands:

Band numberFrequencyDuplex modeBandwidth
5850MHzFDD– 2x5MHz (primary config)
– 2x3MHz
– 2x10MHz

(read notes below)
382600MHzTDD20MHz
402300MHzTDD*20MHz/10MHz
*20MHz is unifi’s primary B40 carrier, 10MHz is unifi’s secondary B40 carrier.

unifi’s B40 has 4×4 MIMO support (at certain places?).

Note that unifi’s B38 is only available in small number of places throughout Malaysia.

Note that unifi also uses either of these 3 configs for each of their B5 sites:

  • 2x5MHz only
  • 2x5MHz + 2x3MHz
  • 2x10MHz only (unifi will eventually convert all B5 sites to this)

unifi looovvveeesss to priortise band 40 over band 5, even if band 5-only tower is way closer than the user compared to band 40 tower.

Maxis 4G MOCN

  • unifi mobile users can access Maxis’s network outside unifi’s own 4G coverage via MOCN and domestic roaming.
  • unifi users can connect to all of Maxis 4G LTE bands (1/3/7/8) just fine.
  • unifi Air users are blocked from accessing Maxis’s network.
  • It is known that speeds while on Maxis’s network is capped to 80Mbps.

VoLTE/VoWiFi support

  • Yes (only for Unifi Mobile SIMs)
  • Unifi Air SIMs aren’t provisioned with VoLTE/voice support as it is a data-only plan.
  • Unifi is more friendly in terms of VoLTE support, so theoretically any phone with VoLTE support should work with unifi Mobile (some devices might need to do some trickery like changing MBN files, editing system files, etc).
  • They have a list of devices which has native/built-in VoLTE support for their network
  • VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi) is in testing phase on certain prepaid/postpaid lines with various devices are supported.

APN settings:

  • Name: unifi
  • APN: unifi
  • APN type: default
  • APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6

Notes:

  • Call forwarding & voicemail is not supported (yet)
  • Unifi Air SIMs seems to have lower network priority than Unifi Mobile prepaid/postpaid SIMs.
  • Unifi supports Google Play Direct Carrier Billing (except Unifi Air SIMs).

Technical details of Unifi’s Mobile network:

LTE eNB pattern:

Unifi Mobile/Air uses 6-digit & 4-digit LTE eNB numbering. 4 digit numbering mostly applies to towers inside TM’s Exchange (ibusawat). 6-digit is used nationwide.

For 6-digit eNB numbering, first & second digits denotes region as per below:
